Classroom Rules

Ms. Harris's Classroom Protocols and Procedures

Ms. Harris Classroom Rules:
  1. Respect all.
  2. Listen when someone is talking.
  3. Raise your hand. Wait to be called on.
  4. Stay in your assigned seat.
  5. Clean up after yourself.
  6. Turn in all assigned work on time.
  7. Be responsible for your materials.
These are the core rules in which we will adhere to a successful classroom environment.
You are mandated to have an Independent Reading Book. Please take a book from our classroom library or go to your local library or bookstore and take out a book of your choosing to read during homeroom and transitional periods. This is a part of your ELA grade and you may log this time in your independent reading log.
When finished with book you must write a book report about it following the book report guidelines. You are required to do at least one book report a month, and we will have presentation days in which you will share your book report and about the novel you read with your classmates.
You are also required to have a Free Write marble notebook. This is a notebook you will keep in which you may log in all of your thoughts, feelings and stories. There will be prompts to get you started, however you are welcome to write and create your own stories in this notebook. This notebook will be used during homeroom and during transitional periods.
It is imperative that you be  prepared for class.
What does that mean?
  • Have your notebook
  • Have a pencil or pen
  • Be ready to take notes and complete all classwork
I will facilitate the information to you, I will provide instructions on the board or on a piece of paper distributed. If you still have a question of what is happening and ask me when the information was facilitated, you will be docked classwork points.
If you chose to not listen to directions, you must follow the 3 before me rule. If you do not follow this, you will be docked classwork points, I will write such in your notebook to let you know of the loss of points.
3 Before me rule:
  1. Read. Look at the directions outlined on the board or paper.
  2. Ask a peer at your table. What do you not understand?
  3. Ask a peer at another table.
When there are people who need support, I will make my way around to help students with their work.I will collect group notebooks from groups each day after our summary and will grade your Summaries on a 2 point rubric, please note your grade is an essential part of your classwork grade.

Grades:
15% Classwork
15% Homework
15% Tests and Quizzes
55% Tests
Why are we here? You are expected to be here in school everyday. Let’s create a purpose for being here. Please fill out your accountability sheets. In school you are graded by your teachers, I am giving you the opportunity to grade yourself.  After every lesson please be sure to grade yourself on your Aim, notes and summary in your notebook.
